TARRAGONA

Tarragona is a quiet place to relax away from hectic Barcelona. A former Roman capital, the town sits above the Mediterranean and offers some melancholy views of its deep blue waters. The beaches are wonderful, with gentle waves crested by white foam constantly slapping against the shore.

The old city, now a World Heritage site, is lined with cobbled streets encircled by Roman walls, and is full of extremely well preserved Roman ruins: the Amphitheatre (located not far from the shore line) which offers a vivid insight into the Roman past; the remains of 6th and 12th century churches (inside the Amphitheatre), commemorate the martyrdom of the Christian bishop Fructuosus and his two deacons, who were burnt alive here in 259; the forum, parts of the original walls and Tarragona’s cathedral, a combination of two distinct styles, Romanesque and Gothic. Its several kilometres of beaches provide a welcome respite from the summer heat.

Tarragona is a perfect destination for business and holiday thanks to its congress centre  and high quality hotels, providing typical restaurants and good Mediterranean cuisine, golf courses, tennis courts, nautical activities facilities, services of boat tours.

The possibility to contemplate Tarragona from the sea while you taste delicious food is worth the visit.
