Welcome Letter

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are delighted to invite you to Rome, October 4-7, 2010 for the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Italian Cancer Society (SIC).
The Meeting will be organized in symposia, lectures, oral presentation sessions and poster discussions, covering the most exciting breakthroughs in laboratory, translational, and clinical research.
Outstanding experts have agreed to share their latest results from cutting-edge basic and discovery-driven translational cancer research. We will also have an important join session with the Italian Association of Medical Oncology, and leading pharmaceutical industries, highlighting successes and pitfalls in the translation of exciting preclinical findings into novel new therapeutic approaches at the patient’s bedside. Traditionally, the lecture in memory of Prof. Giorgio Prodi will be given by an internationally recognized Italian investigator. We especially want to invite young investigators to participate in this Meeting, which offers an excellent opportunity to share one’s own research and to network with other investigators and young SIC members. Young investigators’ participation will be encouraged by the “Piero Trivella”, “Graziella Persico” and “European Association for Cancer Research” (EACR) Awards for the best poster presentations, by “Istituto Regina Elena” Prize for the best oral selected presentation, by the “Elena Cappannini” Award for the best 2009 publication, and by Pezcoller Foundation scholarship.

The Conference venue will be the Angelicum Congress Centre. Dating back to 1569, such historical location is situated in the heart of the Eternal City, a few meters from Piazza Venezia, Coliseum, Imperial Fora and the Quirinal Palace. Some of the greatest masters of the 17th century, such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Giacomo della Porta, have left their imprinting on the architecture and décor of the building.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to members of the SIC board and of the Local Scientific Committee for their hard work and dedication in formulating the excellent Scientific Programme.
We hope you will take advantage all of the outstanding science that the Annual Meeting has to offer by registering early and submitting an abstract within June 15, 2010.

We look forward to welcoming you all in Rome.
